IceBreaker Anti-Bullying Workshops

There are two workshops available to the public as outlined in the brochures, one for young people free of charge and two for carers and corporates at designated costs.

1. Anti-Bullying Workshops for Young People

Ever wondered what to do when you are being bullied? Do you need support to know you can get through? We have a resource that can help you IceBreaker, a ground breaking new programme, is a project of Yes Disability that delivers a message of resilience and strength to young people facing bullying. Co-developed, co-designed and co-delivered by six young leaders from within the disability sector, this workshop has a powerfully simple message, “You are not alone. You can get through this. We did. Here’s some tools”.

With personal stories of bullying, practical activities and take home resources, IceBreaker aims to help with that ‘cold feeling’ young people describe when they are in the midst of being bullied or find themselves in the role of bully.

IceBreaker presents a 60 minute workshop targeted at young people aged 12-24 years of age in a safe and trusted environment. Our Anti-bullying workshop is delivered by IceBreaker crew members and takes a whole new approach to supporting young people.

If you are a young person or know of a young perosn who coudl benefit from an IceBreaker workshop, please email: jamiem@yesdisability.org.nz

2. Anti-Bullying Workshops for Adults to support Young People

Ever wondered what to do when you know a young person who is being bullied? We have a resource that can help you IceBreaker, a ground breaking new programme, is a project of Yes Disability that delivers a message of resilience and strength to young people facing bullying. Co-developed, co-designed and co-delivered by six young leaders from within the disability sector, this workshop has a powerfully simple message, “You are not alone. You can get through this. We did. Here’s some tools”.

With personal stories of bullying, practical activities and take home resources, IceBreaker aims to help with that ‘cold feeling’ young people describe when they are in the midst of being bullied or find themselves in the role of bully.

One of our most important tools is the Trusted Adult Pack,  an interactive booklet for participants to take home and fill out. We see this as a first step in the facing and overcoming bullying – telling someone you trust, telling them what you need and, as importantly, telling them what you do not need. As one young person said “my Mum would go to the school and that would make it worse”.

Sometimes though, it is the adult that first notices the signs of bullying and wants to support their child  with no idea where to start.

IceBreaker now presents a 45 minute workshop targeted for parents, caregivers and people who are in the place of a trusted adult for a young person, such as Aunties, Granparents or one of those people who say ”young people just come to me”. This workshop  gives them the tools and the confidence to assist a young person in this situation.

The IceBreaker crew will go through the Trusted Adult Pack step by step and provide invaluable insight from the perspective of a young person who has come through bullying.
Our Trusted Adult workshop is delivered by IceBreaker crew members and takes a whole new approach to supporting young people.
